Who Will Stop The Rain?

I heard a classic song from the late ’60′s by the legendary Creedence Clearwater Revival. You may know them simply as CCR ; they had such hits as “Proud Mary” and “Bad Moon Rising” (as a kid I though he was singing ‘there’s the bathroom on the right’. It’s before my time but I follow rock from the ’60′s through ’90′s and some contemporary. While staying at the Bunkhouse Men’s Dorm in South Fort Worth, I heard the song “Who will stop the rain?” I heard at the time it was mainly about the Vietnam War, but it could apply to today and does not necessarily have to do with war. Yeshua HaMashiach/Jesus Christ prophesied there would be wars and rumors of wars. Sometimes I think the worst kinds of wars are those that don’t involve military weapons. Sometimes the biggest weapon of mass destruction is our own mouths (James Chapter 3).

Who will stop the rain? As far back as history can go there have been wars; wars between nations, families, individuals, etc. These can be physical, with or without weapons, or emotional/mental. Of course for those that don’t study history, then just read the paper because we will continue to relive “the old days” if we don’t learn anything from our past. So, the answer to “who will stop the rain?” The answer is obvious to those that follow the teachings of Judeo-Christianity. The promised Messiah of Israel. Christians on the other hand know the identity of the Messiah and the only thing you can do to prove that He is still living is receive Him into your life (salvation does not stop there by the way).

Now, I’m finished preaching so I’ll upload the video of a 1969(?) classic.

In the words of the late Jimi Hendrix, “there must be some kind of way outta here.”

Sometimes I wonder if Lenny Kravitz is Jimi Hendrix reincarnated.

Fear of getting old? Or something greater?

Now that I am in my mid-thirties and pushing 40, I notice many of my high school friends that I reconnected with through the amazing power of Facebook comment on how they are getting old. Some are just joking but some actually do have a fear of old age. My dad always taught me that you are only as old as you feel and that life is only as hard as you make it. Life is only hard when we make decisions that are out of step with the will of God which is laid out in scripture; of course any devotional or inspirational that focused on Yeshua as the Messiah and if anointed by the Holy Spirit can be divine inspiration.

When you live right, i.e. focus on God, life seems easier because we are supernaturally regenerated. The healthcare system may think we are “manic” and try to medicate it. I believe one hippie biker Jesus-freak referred to that as the “Jesus High”. Also, our bodies seem to supernaturally balance itself out and even the medical professionals in the Orient say that sickness only happens when our bodies are out of balance. I could recommend a book by Dr. Wayne Dyer called “Being in Balance.” I don’t know what Dr. Dyer believes about Jesus but I notice he is the most charismatic new age teacher and he quotes the New Testament and Jesus Christ a lot. I also notice how amazed I am when I hear someone who looks like they should be in college tell me that they are approaching senior citizenship as fast as they can.

This goes with a story of someone that was close to me seeing a strand of gray hair and insisting that it was blond. I am not colorblind, I have my own gray strands on the sides (they are just overshadowed by the dumbo ears). Anyway, sometimes I have to wonder if the fear of gray hair, fear of getting old, or whatever you call it is related to something much deeper that the Bible talks about.

It’s called the fear of death. No true believer in the Living God and His Messiah will fear death because the presence of the Holy Spirit in their life will assure them of righteousness and peace. It will also give them joy which in God-terminology is true happiness and transcends one’s circumstances. The real assurance that you are a child of God is that you are led by the Holy Spirit. Many evangelists say you can have assurance and peace if you believe (or trust) in Jesus, say the sinner’s prayer, and walk down an aisle to get baptized.

You can do all those above things and not have a genuine assurance of your salvation if you are not led by the Holy Spirit! The Bible, or Jesus the real Word of God, teaches that many will be deceived. Many will come to Him when He returns expecting Him to let them into heaven because they think they knew Him; only to have Him tell them to depart from them workers of iniquity. (Matthew 7:21-scariest verse in the Bible).

Do you fear getting old? If you don’t know the Father and the Son and experienced the supernatural filling of the Holy Spirit then you will likely have the crap scared out of you when you read the book of Revelation. In which case you will probably need an immodium at the first sign of gray hair.

Which tree are you climbing?

I once saw a quote by a charismatic pastor named Ted Garner in Colorado about how each individual is in one of two trees-the tree of life or the tree of knowledge of good & evil. For a little background, Ted Garner was a charismatic pastor for over twenty years until a scandal came out in 2006 about a homosexual encounter that he had. While I learn more towards charismatic beliefs than doom & gloom hell-fire and brimstone, I don’t know if I agree with pastors that have six figures in salaries and millions in assets; although Pastor Rick Warren was quoted on CNN’s Piers Morgan show as saying he increased his giving every year and was now up to 90%. So technically you could make seven figures a year and only keep 10% and still have six figures in assets. Makes sense since you can’t outgive God. Pastor Warren was quoted as saying that it’s not a sin to be rich, it is only a sin to die rich.

Back to Pastor Ted in Colorado. Aside from his sexual encounters (I might add that if you search hard enough you can find skeletons in the closet of any renowned spirit-filled evangelist), Garner was quoted as saying we are either in the Tree of Life or the Tree of Knowledge of good & evil. Those in the tree of life hate sin because of the damage that it does to those who are enslaved to it. Pastor Ted used the example of an abortion clinic. The protester who is in the tree of life would be protesting the abortion out of concern and compassion for the mother and her family while the other protester who was in the other tree merely protested because they saw abortion as evil.

To sum it up, you either avoid sin because it is evil, meaning you are probably keeping a mental checklist of “good & evil” and becoming frustrated in your walk with God; all the while exalting yourself over those that appear to be enslaved to the evil in their lives and serving God out of fear. If you are in the tree of life, you serve God out of love which leads to a desire to want to obey His commandments and hate evil because of what it does to those enslaved to it.

Which one do you think is truly abiding in Christ? I John 4:18 says “perfect love casts out fear”. Do you subconsciously judge those who practice evil or lovingly encourage to seek God so they can be healed of the underlying issues by the MIghty Counselor and the Balm of Gilead? It’s safe to note that the Cross is a tree and Jesus the Messiah is the way, the truth, and the life; aka Tree of Life-get it? I think I just answered my own question. Those in the tree of knowledge of good & evil have head knowledge about God and are merely pursuing religion rather than a relationship with the Living God and His Messiah.

Years to Your Life and Life to Your Years

A little late for my “meaning of Christmas and New Years” article. This is close enough. I heard Pastor Rick Warren of Saddleback Church in California talking to Piers Morgan on CNN on Christmas Eve. He was talking about the meaning of Christmas being salvation. Not just salvation of your souls, but from a more holistic point of view the salvation of your entire being.

During this interview, Pastor Rick Warren was quoted as saying “you don’t need Jesus because you’re going to die tonight, you need Him because you’re going to live tomorrow.” We don’t just need to experience salvation simply in just having our sins forgiven so we can get to heaven when we die; we need to be saved from ourselves so that we can better serve God and help build His Kingdom on earth. Eternal life isn’t something you get when you die, it starts in this life; therefore you can experience your best life now if you have the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit in your life.

In Luke 17, Jesus told the religious people of His day that the Kingdom of God was within them. If it’s within them as egotistical as they are, think of how much more He’s in those that are on fire for Him. In another story in the book of John, Jesus was telling told Martha that her brother Lazarus would rise again. Martha responded by telling the Messiah Yeshua that she knew he would rise again in the resurrection.

The point is, if Martha believed in the resurrection, then why did Jesus go on and say “I am the resurrection and the life. Whoever lives and believes in me, though he die, yet he shall live. And whoever lives and believes in me shall never die. Do you believe this?” Well, do you? He’s asking.

Because the resurrection doesn’t take place in the next life. It’s completed when Jesus comes back. You are literally raised to new life the moment you receive the Son of God into your life. That’s the meaning of New Year’s. Starting over and second chances. God’s grace and mercy renew every day, every month, every hour, every second, minute, year, decade. If you are alive and your heart has not hardened so that you can still hear His voice.

The last thing Martha said was that she believed Jesus was the Anointed Messiah, the one coming into the world. All you have to do is believe. Yes, even demons believe but because they are created perfect salvation is not offered to them. You can believe something intellectually but not really receive or accept it if you are resisting it. You can’t believe in Jesus and cherry pick the bible to pick out what you believe and what you don’t. Being fully surrendered means accepting Him for who He is. If you don’t accept His teachings, then you can’t accept Him. They aren’t that hard to the spiritually discerning. Humans, for being lazy creatures, have a tendency to overcomplexify everything.

It’s all about a relationship. Jesus said in John 10:10, “I came to give them life and give it abundantly. The enemy comes to still, kill, and destroy.” If you aren’t living the abundant life maybe you don’t really believe in the Son. Of course it says in Acts that many believed but have not received the Holy Spirit. They haven’t been empowered because they don’t know who they are or what they have in Christ.

No wonder we are struggling with debt and sickness and the world can’t see the Messiah in His professing followers.

Your Father’s Plan for 2013

image

I know my goal this year is a blog a day, the beginnings of a successful freelance writing career that’s more than just content mills through Elance, and hopefully remarry and start a family. God’s primary New Year’s Resolution is to prosper you and not to harm you. Spiritual prosperity doesn’t necessarily mean financial prosperity, but that’s a matter how good a steward you are with what He gives you. Remember if your Heavenly Father blesses you with wealth it’s not so you can keep it to yourself. God’s New Years resolution is tp fill those with His Holy Spirit that hunger and thirst after His righteousness. To conform us to the image of His beloved Son, Jesus Christ; aka Yeshua HaMashiach. Pursue whatever dream you feel God has placed on your heart. Just do it as a follower of Jesus. Don’t let anything become an idol and separate you from the love of your Heavenly Father and His New Year’s resolution of Christlikeness. God bless and Happy New Year, E Bishop

Gotta Beatitude Problem?

Now that’s the best problem in the world to have. I was reading on a Catholic website that anybody that shows are “beatitude attitude” has the marks of the presence of the Holy Spirit; even if they didn’t know Jesus by name. As long as they don’t openly, intentionally, and willfully reject Him. Then again, when someone does reject Him, you have to wonder if it’s the real Messiah or some distorted image painted by the church.

From a Universalist POV, the Lord is all-inclusive as many are called even though few are chosen. The exclusive are those that actually believe on Him and receive Him and live for Him on a day to day basis. Knowing that the name “Jesus” is only a few centuries old and what some of His other names were makes you wonder if there could be true believers/followers in other religions.

Then again, we’re not qualified to judge unless we can see in someone’s heart. I read a story about Billy Graham witnessing to a monk and asked if the young Buddhist would like to receive Christ. The young monk told Reverend Graham that he already knew Him, he just didn’t know Him by name.

Hmmm. . .God works in mysterious ways. It’s all part of the mystery. To think you know everything about God is a form of self-righteousness.

The secret to happiness, actually a book by Billy Graham, lies in the Beatitudes that can be found in Matthew chapter 5. It starts with a poverty of spirit; or as Yeshua puts it, those that realize their need for God, or divine intimacy that is true and lasting. No idol can do that. Those that have a poverty of spirit are moved to hunger & thirst after the living God of Israel. Then when they see who they are outside of Messiah and what God did for them through Jesus/Yeshua, nothing can stop them from receiving Him because they will hate (love less) their life apart from Him.

Other beatitudes involve being persecuted for righteousness, or right-living. This persecution may take place in one’s very church more than it does in the world. When you step out in faith, don’t expect in any affirmation. The Word says if God be for you, who dare be against you. Those with a beatitude attitude strive to live at peace for bless are the peacemakers.

Being at peace with God makes you want to strive for peace with others. You can tell someone’s relationship with God by their relationship with others. If you hate someone you can see, how can you love a God you can’t see? If you have commitment issues in your relationships, you probably have a hard time trusting God. Who doesn’t to a point?

A fifth beatitude is blessed are the meek for they shall inherit the earth. It says in one of Paul’s epistles that those that die with Him shall reign with Him. You can have all you were destined for in life, which may not be far from what you want, but you have to go through the cross to get it. The essence of sin is doing your own thing without trusting in God to get it. Insisting upon your own way will harden one’s heart to the point of not hearing God’s voice any longer. That’s a dangerous spot to be in.

Being merciful is another beatitude attitude. Those that show mercy to others will receive an abundance of mercy from God. If you want to experience more of God’s forgiveness, then you have to dole it out to those that offend you.

The last two beatitudes are blessing those that mourn and the pure in heart. When you mourn as the result of your sins, or sins done against you, God comforts you with the comforts of His Son. Godly sorrow leads to repentance and a deeper walk with God. Worldy sorrow is merely condemnation that leads you further against Him and deeper into sin.

Being pure in heart is merely being in love with Him. Love is the only thing that purifies one’s heart and it comes from realizing who you are in Christ. Love covers a multitude of sins. When you love God and love others, it produces Godly motives in your daily pursuits in business and relationships.

I was reading Psalm 10 recently and noticed it’s the exact opposite of a beatitude attitude. The wicked hunts down the weak (persecutes the righteous). He’s caught up in his own wicked schemes and even boasts about his own sinful cravings. This type of man reviles God and doesn’t seek after the things of God. In fact he is so full of himself that there is no room for God. That’s why Jesus teaches us to deny ourselves; for Him to increase, we must decrease.

There’s more but you will have to read it for yourself. I don’t want to be your Bible. Nor make this article too long.

To Fear Or Not To Fear

Many times in the OT, or Tanakh, it says to fear the Lord and walk according to His ways. Proverbs declares that the fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom. Then we switch over to the NT where it says that God has not given us a spirit of fear but of power, love, and a sound mind. I John 4:18 tells us that perfect love casts out fear.

You hear many believers say that we are a New Testament church. We are not under law but under grace. The Old Testament is a history book. One Jewish person even told me, with regards to the New Testament, that if it’s a testament then it’s not new and if it’s new then it’s not a testament. In other words, God doesn’t change. The book of Hebrews even says that God/Jesus is the same yesterday, today, and forever.

To start off, there is a healthy fear of God and an unhealthy fear. The healthy fear just means to respect Him. To stand in awe of His majesty. In doing so we will actually want to obey His commandments and precepts. This usually comes from a heart filled with love. Since this is unnatural to our human nature it usually comes when we acknowledge the Living God and His Son for the Word teaches that if you have not the Son, then you have not the Father. While, unlike most believers, I don’t go around shouting out Jesus is God because I don’t believe He is the Father or the Father is the Son, I was reading in the Gospel of John that when Jesus acknowledged He was the Son of God was enough to admit equality with His Father. Although Philippians is noted for saying in Ch. 2, v. 5-11 that even Jesus Christ didn’t consider equality with God something to be grasped.

Despite being equal with His Father, He was still 100% human. Had it not been for His perfect relationship with God, He would not have been fully inspired by the Holy Spirit to become perfect sacrifice for us. I read that in a DL Moody ebook on Amazon. They’re free as Reverend Moody is not receiving royalties anymore. He’s about as rich as you can get these days.

The Danger of History Repeating Itself

It has always been taught by instructors that the danger of not knowing your history, or where you came from, is that you would be doomed to repeating it. For this article we will compare the Jewish church of Yashua’s day with the religious right of ours.

When Yashua/Jesus came the first time, the Sadduccess & Pharisees of His day hated Him because He challenged their authority. They had practiced their religion so long that they were afraid of change and became comfortable with their man-made doctrines. Fear of change is a sin in and of itself as the world is constantly changing and refusing to change can cause you to stagnate spiritually. Just make sure that in changing you conform yourself to the image of God and don’t try to conform the image of God to the lies of the world.

The main reason why the church is losing ground in the western world today is because they are trying to do things the way they have always done them. The very definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again while getting the same result. In the area of politics this is the exact problem with the GOP; trying to run a country the way it has always been run. I even read an article lately that said if the GOP wanted to have a shot at the white house again, they would have to make some changes.

Like the Sadduccees & Pharisees of the Messiah’s day, the religious right doesn’t like modern day believers and worshippers of the Living G-d to challenge their authority. There are even some churches that will make you question your salvation if you do so. That goes back to what it says in the Word-if God be for you who dare be against you. If you are truly following the L-rd then the very people you worship with may come against you. You have nothing to worry about if you have the peace that surpasses all understanding because it says in the Word that anybody who comes against the Anointing of the L-rd brings a curse upon themselves. That goes for coming against Israel or any truly spirit-filled person.

Of course many older Americans were brought up to not question authority. And some younger ones; though the baby boomers pretty much stood in the face of this one in their rebellion against the establishment of the 1960′s.

Let’s look at the case of the healthcare system. Which for some reason I actually thought hospitals were nonprofit. Understanding that hospitals are for profit, and according to rumor have a little “financial backing” from the Pharmaceutical industry, makes us question the growing number of certain diagnoses.

For example, you don’t hear about clinical depression or generalized anxiety disorders anymore. Everything is Bipolar Disorder. I even read on one post that depression, anxiety, mania, paranoia, and irritability/anger could even by symptoms of Schizophrenia. So it wouldn’t surprise me if the day comes when more and more people are being diagnosed as paranoid schizophrenics. I think I have already seen some of this in my life in the inner city of Fort Worth which is dominated by MHMR over the last year.

Another commonly diagnosed physical malady is Acid Reflux, or GERD. Notice the meds for Bipolar and Acid Reflux are highly expensive? Often times the anxiety symptoms in mental illness can cause digestive problems or even heartburn. I have experienced this firsthand.

Remember back when Doctors would give thorough diagnosises and look at homeopathic remedies or natural medicines? Remember back when antipsychotics, or shrink meds as someone commented on a previous post, were add-ons to antidepressants? Now they are being prescribed right off and told that the patient will have to take these meds for life.

Wouldn’t want the good doctor and pharmacy to lose business now would we? It wouldn’t surprise me if they started prescribing antipsychotics shrink meds as add-ons to Nexium for Acid Reflux. It’s guaranteed to take your mind off your pain-because you will be literally be sleeping it off. Keep taking that crap and one day you might not wake up.

Back to the main topic. Putting God first in everything means challenging whatever the world teaches us; this includes medical professionals, clergy, and liberal college professors. The Word does teach us to submit to those placed in authority over us but often times those placed in authority over us will get on a power trip and take advantage of that authority. Failure to question established authority could make them an idol.

Seeking first the Kingdom of God means weighing every doctrine and teaching of man against the Word and not letting anyone influence what G-d shows us except for the Holy Spirit. Although we will usually have two or three witnesses to confirm what our Father is showing us.

That goes with getting a second opinion when we face a diagnosis. Often times, and this is true in the case of mental illness, when we have a diagnosis of Bipolar Disorder, a second opinion will match the first one because when doctors get releases of medical history they are afraid to question another doctor because they themselves don’t like being questioned. It doesn’t help that they live in fear of being sued for malpractice in case they misdiagnose. Guess in their eyes it’s better to overdiagnose than underdiagnose.

“Follow God and He will show you some things. And no one will believe you.”-E Bishop Wooten

Law of Karma

Yep. My old legalist friends would be praying for my soul since I’m sure I’ve gone New Age or became the new Prosperity Poster Boy. Next up, I need to find a Mosque and get to know an Imam. I believe it’s easier to share your faith when you’re more open-minded. Being closed-minded is basically saying you’re right and everyone else is wrong. I.e.; you’re the one true church and all else is going to hell.

Karma can be summed up with the old saying “what goes around comes around.” Or as the Bible teaches-”the law of sowing & reaping.” The Word of God teaches that whatever you sow that you also reap. If you sow to the flesh you reap destruction. If you sow in the Spirit you reap Life Everlasting in Christ. Sowing in the flesh means doing stuff solely for your own benefit and glory. Success in this area will make you full of yourself and harden your heart towards God. Don’t think you can’t just as easily slide back into this lifestyle just because you overcame a lot. Sowing in the Spirit means seeking first the things of God and His Kingdom. In exchange He fills you with His Spirit to overflowing into the lives of others and you become more loving.

The Golden Rule is to do unto others as you would have them do unto you. When you sow righteousness as an overflow of your relationship to God and not out of your own mere fleshly goodness you reap a bounty of righteousness and good things will chase you down and overtake you. When you sow to the flesh not only do you harden your heart towards God but you cause others to stumble because of your own hypocrisy and could hinder their relationship with the Almighty as well. One person’s sin affects others and could even be handed down to future generations if not repented of.

Go plant some seeds of righteousness by hungering & thirsting after the Holy One.

Word Digestion & Instant Grits

Hungry? Jesus said “man does not live on bread alone buy by every word that proceeds out of the mouth of God.” The only food you need is the Bread of Life that’s found in the Messiah as well as the Living Water He offers that will fill you up to everlasting life and overflow into others enabling you to show your  love for God by the way you love them; thus fulfilling the Law of God.

Many churches talk about devouring the Word of God (not literally like my rat terrier did one time). Even charismatic Baptistcostal preacher Charles Stanley said you can study the Bible and miss God. The question is why do you study the Word of God? Many people, especially in America, have enough head knowledge about the things of God to enable them to miss heaven by 18 inches (the difference between your head and your heart). Do you study the Word to get to know God personally? Are you seeking His Face? Are you you guilty of be a gnostic, or worshipper of merely knowledge?

Full Pentecostal preacher Steve Hill of Heartland World Ministries Church in Irving, TX. declared one time “it’s not how much you get into the Word; it’s how much of the Word gets in you.” There’s truth to the Prosperity Gospel. However many fall away because they expect God to deliver on demand; making  Him sound like a Sear’s Catalogue. First off you can’t just pray for whatever you want and expect God to cater to your every whim. That’s trying to manipulate your Heavenly Father. You seek Him and His Kingdom and all else will be added; including the desires of your heart or what God wants you to do with your life.

Do the desires of your heart glorify God and line up with His Word? Are you asking amiss if you aren’t receiving? God won’t bless you with anything on your timetable. If He did there would be no need for faith that perseveres. You would just be seeking God for what He can give you rather than what you can give Him; which is only your heart and life in exchange for Him giving His life for you.

America is a fast paced society. We want everything now! We are willing to settle for what’s right now rather than what’s right for us in the long term; I.e.; instant grits (actually gratification but grits fits the title of the Blog). God’s timing may line up with your timing but that’s still not exactly when you want it and it’s not exactly what you want. You should be thankful He doesn’t give you everything you want for it might destroy  you. It all depends on how close you are to God; meaning how Christlike you are.

Shabat Shalom in the name of Yeshua Mashiach
